BMW B48 G20 ECU Remap

OEM+ Calibration for the BMW 320i G20 B48 2.0T — Dyno-Validated +40 whp

What is the BMW B48 Engine?

The BMW B48 is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine found in the 320i G20 (2019–2022 model years, market-dependent). It produces 184 hp (135 kW) and 300 Nm of torque in its standard configuration. The B48 features an advanced twin-scroll turbocharger, VALVETRONIC variable valve lift, and Double-VANOS variable cam timing — making it one of BMW's most efficient and tunable powerplants.

The B48 is managed by a Bosch MG1 DME (Digital Motor Electronics) unit, which controls every aspect of engine operation from fuel injection timing to turbocharger boost pressure. This sophisticated ECU is precisely what makes professional ECU calibration so effective on this engine.

Our OEM+ calibration for the B48 optimises boost pressure, ignition timing, fuel delivery, and torque limiter maps while preserving all factory safety systems. The result is a significant improvement in mid-range torque and top-end power that feels like a factory upgrade — smooth, linear, and reliable.

How the B48 Remap Works

The entire process is performed remotely via your OBD2 port using a standard ENET cable. Our software reads your MG1 DME — even if it's locked — extracts the factory calibration, and writes the optimised OEM+ calibration. No physical modification to the engine or ECU hardware is required.

The B48 calibration modifies the following ECU maps:

Boost pressure target maps — increased across the usable RPM range
Ignition timing maps — optimised for higher output with knock safety margins
Fuel injection parameters — adjusted to match increased airflow
Torque limiter maps — raised to allow the engine to deliver more power
Throttle response maps — sharpened for improved pedal feel

B48 vs B42: Which Engine Do I Have?

If your 320i G20 was manufactured before mid-2022, you likely have the B48 engine. Later models (2022+) in certain markets received the updated B42 engine. Both engines respond exceptionally well to our OEM+ calibration. Read our detailed B48 vs B42 comparison to identify your engine.

Why Choose Professional ECU Remap Over DIY?

While DIY tuning tools exist, professional calibration offers dyno-validated maps developed specifically for the B48 platform, with proper safety margins and extensive real-world testing. Learn more about the differences between DIY and professional remap approaches.

Safety and Reliability

Our B48 calibration preserves all factory safety systems including knock detection, over-temperature protection, and oil pressure monitoring. The engine operates within its designed mechanical limits — we optimise the ECU software, not the hardware tolerances. This is fundamentally different from piggyback modules that manipulate sensor signals.

The calibration is fully reversible. You can flash back to the original factory software at any time using the same remote process.

Remote Installation Process

Our remote tuning process is simple and safe. You receive step-by-step guidance through the entire procedure. All you need is the Bimmer Power Studio software, an ENET cable, and a Windows laptop connected to your 320i's OBD2 port. The entire flash takes approximately 15 minutes.
